After scanning each of your five items, you place them in the bag. Not on the counter. That way, the person behind you doesn't have to wait on you. Also- you don't pay entirely in change. Both of these things contribute to the fact that it took you fifteen minutes to purchase yogurt and candy bars.

Besides that, a fine trip to the grocery store. Salami, provolone, and potato bread made for a delicious sandwich, and there's two more packed for lunch. Mmmm-mmmm.
